Musical exchange programme between the Collegium Musicum Choir and the GMEM choir of North Cyprus
Turkish Cypriot
musician Turgay Hilmi, the TRNC’s cultural attaché in Germany who
has staged a series of operas and concerts over recent years in
North Cyprus, has struck an exchange agreement between the Collegium
Musicum choir in Malta and the Girne Music Education Centre (GMEC)
choir in North Cyprus.
The Collegium Musicum shall be visiting North Cyprus at the end of August where it shall perform on at least two occasions. The main concert shall be Gabriel Fauré's famous "Requiem" (1893 version) which shall take place in the wonderful setting of the Bellapais Abbey refectory. The Collegium Musicum shall be singing together with the GMEC choir and The Antalya Devlet Opera and Ballet Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Dion Buhagiar. The Collegium Musicum shall also put up another concert of spirituals and other traditional songs during its stay in Cyprus.
The Turkish choir shall be reciprocating this exchange programme in the beginning of September whereby the same "Requiem" by Fauré shall be performed at the Mdina Cathedral on the 8th of September together with the Collegium Musicum Choir and this time under the direction of Turgay Hilmi. |
